LISTEX sponsor Huski tells us how they discovered their niche
LISTEX 2017 sees us welcoming a brand new sponsor to the event. Huski is a start up which identified a niche in the ski holiday market, and rather than doing nothing about it, took the bull by the horns and set up a company that delivers anything you could need to your self catering chalet or apartment. .
Serving 16 resorts from the Tarentaise, to Paradiski, to the 3 Valleys and Porte Du Soleil. Huski delivers fresh and frozen food, meals and also drinks to chalets ahead of or during a ski holiday. Orders are taken 24 hours a day online, with delivery seven days a week. We spoke to Huski CEO Paddy Griffith about how it all works and why the are looking forward to LISTEX:
1) How did you realise there was a niche for food and meal deliveries in ski resorts?
That time…our families travelled 12 hours to a chalet with an empty fridge and all the supermarkets were closed for rest of the weekend.
That time….we tried to knock up a delicious dinner with some wilting vegetables, a kilo of pasta and a spice rack that extends no further than Salt & Pepper.
I guess, we experienced these ‘times’ year after year until Mark & I were in a place in our lives to say, “you know what, let’s try invent a better way?”
2) Explain to us how Huski works exactly?
It’s pretty simple. You order direct from us at www.hu.ski or via your holiday company, and we’ll deliver oven-ready meals and whatever drinks you want the next day. We do breakfasts, teatime, canapés and dinners just like any good chalet.
We can fill your fridge for when you arrive, or you can play it by ear and we’ll deliver day by day. No shopping, No prep, No washing up…More time to get out there and enjoy the mountains.
3) Do Huski do the cooking?
No. We Huskis are great at delivering, but we leave the chef-ing to the experts. We spent a year hunting down the best food suppliers we could find locally in the Alps and back in the UK.
Our main food range comes from the UK’s frozen-food geniuses COOK. Their ready-to-heat home-made meals are perfect for a ski holiday – and we are proud to hold the exclusive rights to sell COOK food in the Alps. And if you want local produce or Savoyard classics we also developed oven-ready menus from award-winning local restaurants like Le Monal near Val D’Isere.
Our focus is on working with Tour Operators to create more ways to offer all kinds of delicious food to their guests.
4) We assume you are a Great British Bake Off fan? If not, why not?
My wife & kids absolutely love GBBO – but when they are snuggled up on the sofa to watch it – I sneak off to watch sport and drink beer in another room. I like watching competitions that involve more mud and less marzipan!
5) What would be your perfect Alpine meal and tipple?
I am a sucker for a 1970’s style Raclette. It’s hard to beat a tractor wheel of oozing cheese with endless supplies of cornichons and cured meat. The best mountain drink is always a Negroni. After all who wants ‘mixers’ in their cocktails??
6) What are you looking forward to the most about LISTEX?
We are the new kids on the block so I am looking forward to getting to know the industry crowd and making some friends – in meetings, on the slope, and in the bar.
